Fine art figurative portraits

Client guide

These sessions are simply for you. It’s not about perfection, it’s about body positivity, beauty in authenticity and celebrating you exactly as you are in this moment. This experience isn’t about meeting expectations, it’s about being seen, and embracing your unique beauty. Underlying all of my work is a celebration of the power of women, and a desire for you, through my lens, to celebrate yourself. Thank you for choosing me to be your photographer, it’s going to be fun!

The majority of my clients say that they are awkward in front of the camera, and are nervous about the shoot. It’s totally normal to feel like this, it’s my job to help you relax and I’ll direct you every step of the way. You can be as clothed or nude as you’re comfortable with, there are no rules! If you do want some nude shots then I will position you in the most flattering poses which will actually expose very little. Clients are always surprised at how comfortable they felt throughout the shoot and how much they enjoyed the process.

My home studio in Kensal Rise is the perfect quiet, secluded environment to take portraits of your glorious self. There is no waiting room at the studio, and due to the space and nature of the shoot there is only room for those who are going to appear in the photos.

WARDROBE - If you’re feeling shy, rest assured you can be as clothed or nude as you’re comfortable with. It’s your shoot and your call! You are very welcome to use my robes and kimonos, or not. In my wardrobe there is a red kimono, a gold kimono, a sheer white robe, a lacy white robe and a length of muslin we can use as drapery. I love it when clients bring their own style and ideas to a session so if there is anything specific of yours you would like to include please do, just make sure it's not too creased. Other items could include underwear that makes you feel good, jewelry, shoes, sentimental pieces and outrageous outfits are all very welcome! If you simply want to bring nothing and bare all that's fine too.

PREPARATION - It’s very important not to wear anything tight on your skin for at least a few hours before your shoot. Waistbands, bras and socks all leave marks on the skin which are very hard, and sometimes impossible to edit out.

Keep foundation and blusher to an absolute minimum (or better to not wear any at all) as makeup can make faces a different colour to the rest of the body in the photos. Everyone ignores this, and we end ip needing to remove the foundation and blusher so please trust me when i say my incredible editor will work wonders on your skin without it looking fake at all! Concealer under the eyes and on blemishes, and mascara and a little lipstick are fine if it's something you wear. Bringing some translucent powder and a brush to get rid of face shine can also be helpful if you have some. Make sure you're well hydrated as this can affect how the skin looks. Moisturising dry skin on your body can make a big difference, especially dry spots on the hands and feet. Speaking of which, be aware that your fingernails and toenails may be prominent in a few shots, so make sure you like how they look on the day.
