A few tips to help your photo shoot go smoothly….

FOR YOU

Clothes - Avoid wearing black, white, blue and anything with a logo. Muted, soft tones work well such as brown, pink, red and dark green. I’m always happy to break the rules if there’s something you’d love to wear. Informal is best, and wearing clothes that are comfortable and make you feel good is the way to go. If you have a white dog that sheds, lighter options may work better to minimise visible hairs.

Makeup - Keep foundation and blusher to an absolute minimum (or better to not wear any at all) as it can make skin tones look orange in photographs. Concealer under the eyes and on blemishes, and mascara are fine. Bringing some translucent powder and a brush to get rid of face shine can also be helpful if you have some. The edit will do wonders for your skin so don’t worry!

Hands - Your hands will feature in the images, so see if your nails could do with a file/polish, or just some moisturiser.

FOR YOUR DOG

If you like your dog scruffy and wild that’s fine by me! If you prefer a cleaner, shinier look, give your dog a bath, or book an appointment at the dog groomers with enough time for their fur to settle.

Either way, it’s important for me to be able to capture your dogs eyes clearly as they can say so much about an animals personality and are crucial to capturing a good portrait. This also means wiping away any sleep from their eyes while they’re at home and in familiar surroundings.

Exercise

Photo shoots are always done at 11am, so factoring in a walk before your session makes a huge difference to your dogs energy levels. It’s incredibly hard to get capture good photographs if they’re hyper, so a good walk before hand is crucial. Queens Park is not far from the studio (on the lead only), or a walk around the block might be enough for smaller dogs. Bring a brush to get rid of any last minute mud and matting.

Treats

Please bring some of your dogs favourite treats. Getting a still portrait can rely on the smell and promise of familiar favourites! I can provide water.
